The Heart of Wasilla’s Future

About David Wilson
For almost three decades, Alaska has remained my home, my community, and the place where I’ve dedicated my life to public service. From teaching to my work in behavioral health, working with nonprofits, and later serving on the Wasilla City Council and in the State Senate, my focus has always been the same: strengthening families, supporting local communities, and ensuring Alaskans have a strong voice in the decisions that shape their future.
A Life Rooted in Service
My eight years representing the Mat-Su in the Alaska State Senate remain one of the greatest honors of my life. Working alongside dedicated Alaskans, I strengthened our communities, improve access to healthcare, support public safety, and secure critical investments for infrastructure and economic growth. Before serving in the Senate, I served on the Wasilla City Council, where I worked closely with local organizations, businesses, and public safety partners to support the city I proudly call home.
Wasilla is where I built relationships, a family, and committed myself to create opportunities for the people who live and work here. I believe deeply in the potential of this city and the values that make it strong: resilience, hard work, and a shared commitment to community.
Family & Alaska Roots
My wife is a lifelong Alaskan who grew up along the Lower Yukon River. Her deep connection to Alaska’s culture, communities, and traditions has shaped our family’s values and strengthened my own understanding of the challenges and opportunities facing rural and urban Alaskans alike. Together, we’ve built a life centered on service, community involvement, and supporting the people who make this state such a remarkable place to call home.
Professional Background
My professional experience spans education, healthcare, business, and community leadership, giving me a broad understanding of the challenges and opportunities facing Alaskans.
-
I hold degrees in education, psychology, and an MBA with a concentration in health service administration.
-
I spent more than a decade working in behavioral health, specializing in youth services, crisis intervention, and family support.
-
I taught in rural Alaska and provided technical assistance to community health clinics and safety‑net providers across the state.
-
I served as the director of a domestic violence and sexual assault programs, supporting survivors and strengthening community safety.
-
I am a small‑business owner, having started and operated my own business here in Alaska. That experience has given me firsthand insight into the needs of local entrepreneurs, the realities of running a business in our state, and the importance of supporting a strong, resilient local economy.
Across all of these roles, I’ve worked as a motivated, personable business professional with diverse experience in leadership, operations, and community engagement. These experiences have shaped my understanding of how policy, public safety, economic development, and community support intersect, and how strong leadership can create opportunities for families and businesses alike.
Leadership Philosophy
I am a principled, common‑sense conservative who believes government should be accountable, responsible, and focused on serving the people. Throughout my public service, I have led with integrity, honesty, and a commitment to delivering real results.
My work has centered on:
• Supporting strong families
• Expanding job opportunities
• Improving access to affordable healthcare
• Strengthening public safety
• Protecting the rights and freedoms of Alaskans
• Ensuring responsible, sustainable growth for Wasilla
I believe in steady leadership, practical experience, and a community‑focused approach — values that have guided every step of my career.
A Commitment to Wasilla’s Future
Wasilla is built on strong families, shared values, and a spirit of resilience. With experienced leadership and a clear vision, I believe our city can continue to grow responsibly, remain safe, and thrive for generations to come.
My commitment is simple: to serve Wasilla with integrity, to listen to the people who call it home, and to work every day to strengthen the community we share.
